Search syntax & examples

Multiple words: Results must contain all the words you type.
samuel froehlich — episodes containing both terms.
Word variants (stemming): Common endings are folded together automatically.
martyr matches martyr, martyrs, martyrdom.
baptism matches baptize, baptized, baptizing.
Partial words (prefix): A short word matches anything starting with it.
mart matches martyr, martin, martha.
Note: matching happens on word stems, so a query like ante may also surface anti… words because they share a stem. Highlighted words in the snippet show why each result matched.
Common words ignored: Stop words like the, a, of, and, to are skipped. Search by content words instead.
Case: Search is case-insensitive. God and god match the same things.
Punctuation: Punctuation is treated as a word break. Hyphens and em-dashes split a phrase into separate words.
Linkable searches: You can deep-link a query with ?q=.
